A New Realm is Conceived
Every realm begins somewhere.
Ours began not with a castle, a charter, or even a name, but with a group of friends and an idea.
In the early days of October 2025, conversation turned toward creating something of our own. Something rooted in the medieval and fantasy communities we already loved, but with a purpose extending beyond gatherings, garb, and shared interests. We envisioned fellowship with substance behind it: a community where friendship, service, imagination, and a little draconic mischief might comfortably dwell together.
Early fall of 2025 ideas started percolating and in October, names for our group started getting tossed around when a name emerged from those conversations:
The Draconic Order.
And with a name, the creature began to stir.
But before we even had a name we were already discussing something considerably more ambitious: creating our own Renaissance faire. A Renaissance Faire Planning conversation was underway, beginning what would become months of ideas, questions, research, and increasingly serious plotting.
But before we could build a faire, we had an Order to build.
The fledgling Order made its first public appearance in the Klamath Falls Snowflake Parade on December 4, 2025 when the Draconians took to the Streets disguised as knights.
We had a float. We had jesters, we had knights. We had enthusiasm.
We did not yet have any infrastructure…but we had a name.
Details. A realm, after all, must begin somewhere.
On that Thursday evening in December, the Draconic Order entered the procession and became, at least for one cold night, something more than an idea being discussed among friends.
We had taken to the streets.
A Digital Holding is Secured.
On January 8, 2026, the domain of the Draconic Order was acquired and a small corner of the digital realm became ours.
It was a small administrative act with considerably larger implications. The Order now had a place reserved for it in the wider world, even though the realm behind that address was yet to be built.
Nine days later, the draconians went to work.
Service began before structure.
On Saturday, January 17, 2026, members of the emerging Order operated the food concessions at Play Outdoors, sponsored by the Klamath Falls Chamber of Commerce.
There was still no incorporated Draconic Order.
There was, however, service.
That distinction would become important to who we were becoming. Long before all the formal pieces were assembled, we were already doing the work we believed should be part of our foundation.
Around the Founding Table members gathered with a voice from afar for a foundational meeting on January 31, 2026.
Ideas that had spent months wandering through conversations began taking more definite form.
By then, the question was no longer whether the Draconic Order should exist. The creature had already escaped that particular cage.
It was time to give it a proper foundation.
We reviewed proposed bylaws and talked through the practical steps required to formally establish the Order: incorporation, obtaining an EIN, establishing financial accountability, and ultimately seating a Board that could formally adopt the bylaws, appoint officers, and begin putting the necessary policies in place.
Just as importantly, we agreed not to get ahead of ourselves. This was not the meeting to decide every program, fundraiser, title, rank, or grand idea the Order might someday pursue. The purpose was more fundamental: to create a legitimate structure with clear governance and accountability while leaving ourselves room to discover what the Draconic Order might become.
For months we had been imagining. Now we were preparing to build, giving sinew and structure to what had begun as little more than an idea passed among friends.
The creature that had stirred in October was growing bones.
The Draconic Order Became Official on February 2, 2026, as the paperwork followed the vision.
An Employer Identification Number was obtained and Articles of Incorporation filed.
What had begun four months earlier as conversation among friends now had a formal existence.
Our realm had crossed from imagination into record.
However, a new realm needs a foundation upon which to stand. The first official meeting of the Board was held on February 23, 2026.
Directors were installed and the work of building the organization in earnest began: establishing its groundwork, developing policies and structure, defining responsibilities, and tackling the many decidedly unromantic necessities required to turn a good idea into an enduring organization.
Our realm, it seems, requires more than draconians and good intentions.
Our Renaissance Faire idea had never disappeared.
Quite the opposite.
It too was stirring as if it were trying to come to life.
Clearly, a Reconnaissance Faire...I mean, a Renaissance Faire...was in order.
So on June 13, 2026, members of the Order ventured forth to a Renaissance Faire during its Viking-themed weekend, on what can only properly be described as a reconnaissance mission.
We watched.
We wandered.
We studied the gate and its ticketing method, vendors, activities, demonstrations, entertainment, grounds, traffic flow, and the thousand little details a visitor may never consciously notice but an event organizer suddenly sees everywhere.
We were, of course, there strictly for research.
Any merriment experienced along the way was entirely incidental.
The lessons returned home with us and became part of the continuing plans for what we hope will eventually rise as our own Dragon Faire.
In July came another opportunity to put additional service into practice. We were Raising More Than a Shed. We were building connections.
Over the weekend of July 11–12, 2026, a few members gathered for a shed-raising project, lending their hands and labor to help members of our community erect a new shed.
No tournament herald announced the undertaking. No bard composed a ballad.
At least not yet.
It was simply people showing up and helping where help was needed.
And that may be one of the clearest expressions yet of what the Draconic Order was created to become.
The Realm is Proclaimed.
Months after securing our small piece of the digital realm, the work behind it was finally ready to be revealed.
The Draconic Order website went live on August 5, 2026.
Our realm had at last been opened to the wider world.
For the first time, visitors could enter our realm and discover who we are, what guides us, what we hope to accomplish, and perhaps even consider taking a place among us.
And now, within these pages, The Codex inscribes what has been and what is to come.
What began in October 2025 as an idea passed among friends has become an incorporated organization, a growing fellowship, a force for community service, and the beginning of something none of us can yet fully predict.
That seems fitting.
After all, realms are not built in a day.
They are built through conversations and ridiculous ideas that somehow become serious ones. Through meetings and paperwork. Through laughter, labor, experiments, successes, and the occasional reconnaissance mission disguised as a trip to a Renaissance faire.
Most of all, they are built by people who decide that imagining something is not quite enough.
Sometimes, you have to gather your friends and build it.
And thus, the Draconic Order became.
